400-460 fan shroud

I just yanked the old 400 out and put in a 460 from a 73 lincoln. The truck is a 79 3/4 ton 4x4 super cab. I used the fan from the 460 and the shroud from the 400. Now the fan hits the shroud when I'm idling dow to a stop. I checked the motor mounts they are tight and brand new from L&L. The radiaror is tight and straight, so is the shroud. I looked and can't see where the fan is hitting. Does the 400 use a different shroud than the 460? Its not doing any damage but its a very anoying sound. Any ideas? Thanks Jesse.

Yes the truck had fact. AC, and the radiator is a 4 core. I removed the AC compressor. All the lines and condensor were already gone when I got the truck. and the 400 brackets wouldn't work with the 460 anyway. I'm almost ready to go to electric cooling fans, but you can't beat the mechanical system , It cools great. Thank Jesse

When I swapped in my 429 I used the shroud from the 400 and a 17" flex fan. I had to "shorten" the height of the 400 fan shroud to fit tho as I still have the A/C and it would of hit the compressor pulley. Try using a 17" flex fan and you should be ok. Make sure you get the proper spacer as well.

The 4-core rad & 400 (2-core rad application) shroud is the problem.

The 460 With 4 core rad (A/C) requires the special thinner fan shroud.I think about 2 1/2" less wide.

Yes the shrouds are different. The 460 is a very thin piece. You want your fan blades to be about 1/2 way into the shroud for max effectiveness.
