I cut my stock pipes behind the cats(for warranty reasons), and ran a true dual setup into 2 flowmaster 40 series, then tucked them under the rear bumper with some chromed rolled tips. Looks and sounds mean. I have had many compliments. Very quiet when in idle but when you push the gas it opens up.

hey,

dont know how long you have it, but there is a break in period. i did the same thing and after 500-1000 miles you will hear a difference, even inside the very quiet cab. give it some time before swapping it out. just my .02

Hey wildthing327, I had a 98 Ranger 4x4 before my 04 F-150 FX4. I did the same thing with my ranger that your thinking about doing to yours. First I put in a 2 chamber Flowmaster and left the stock tail pipe in place. I wasn't happy with that. Then I put a Y pipe on it and ran dual's out back with 3 1/2"x 24" tips. I wasn't happy with that either. So I finally put a Flowmaster in with a single inlet, dual outlet with 3" pipe with 3 1/2" tips. Finally I had the sound I wanted. Granted I know that was a 4.0L and were talking about a 5.4L V8, but the moral of the story is If you have any doudt about putting in that Y connector, then your gonna always be wondering if your truck would sound better if you had a dual outlet. You could end up wasteing a lot of money on this stuff. But that Y pipe might not sound any different than a dual outlet, on a V8. Hopes this helps. Good luck.( sorry this was a long story)
