Without larger cams, headwork, uncorked exhaust and such. I don't think that it will help by itself. A 75mm throttlebody may help some. I personally don't know of anyone using one. I would probably run a recalibrated Lightning MAF myself.

Check engine light

The check engine light was the most significant difference that I noticed after installing a Granatelli Mass Air Flow Sensor into my 2001 5.4l. I already did the K&N FIPK and Flowmaster exhaust aftermarket upgrades which got me somewhat aroused. That was money well spent. I was disappointed with the new mass airflow sensor . The check engine light came on regularly after heavy throttle usage. My latest upgrade was a Hypertech power programmer. Tuned for premium gas this Triton is quite impressive. The chk eng. light now remains off.
I plan on installing a throttle body spacer next.

it my be just me, but i wouldn;t get one. you would be better off to buy a larger thottle body. a little more money up front, but it will save you in the long run. i am pulling my tb spacer off for a larger tb. because the spacer will not work with a larger tb it is matched to the stock tb.

No need to touch the maf until you are pegging it on the dyno.

Those aftermarket maf's suck if you ask me. The best way to do it is get a genuine ford maf, and have your tuner program the transfer function into the eec.

i hear the new MAF will give you up to another 17hp at the rear wheels. i would also add the 75mm therottle body.

Question ?? Throttle body upgrade ??

Any recommendations as to an upgraded throttle body for a 2001 5.4L? what size is stock? Is the price for performance worth it?

My stock one measured 68mm. A MAC 75mm is a good deal. Motorhaven Should have them.

Please, I would love to see someone get 17 at the wheels out of a air sensor but its not going to happen at all.

Put your truck on the dyno and prove us all wrong, but you aren't going to get anything noticable out of a maf upgrade until you start making big horsepower and pegging the stock maf.

I've got a MAC 75mm TB and it seems to work ok...had a problem with a high idle rpm and it still seems slightly elevated. I'd try a BBK model...maybe the better build quality will help. You'll also need to port out the TB elbow to match...takes only an hour maybe with a die grinder and some abrasive scrolls. As to a TB spacer...junk. Only way I'd get one would be to drill and tap it for a nitrous jet...
