B2 new fuel pump not working

I just installed a new HP fuel pump on 86 B2 and it does not come on at all.
The old pump pumped a little gas at least, the new one, nothing!
The wires and fuel lines are tight. What should I check?

Do you have 12v at the FP, how about at the inertia switch.

still checking

I do not have power at the pump. I pushed the reset on the inertia switch, still nothing.
I dont know if the wires are reversed or not, the new pump was not labled + and -, and the terminals are not the same as the old one.
How did changing the pump kill the power?
Thanks

help finding an old post

When I replaced the computer a year ago there was a post telling how to power the fuel pumps by jumpering some wires at the relay or something like that. I cant find the info by searching the forum. Does anyone know about this?
Its the only way I am going to get the new pump problem checked out.

You ground one of the leads to the self-test connector (short end). A Chiltons/Haynes manual should have diagrams.

Thank you mrshorty, thats exactly what I needed and it's running now!

I had to do that to test the pump since it isnt powered without the truck running. The leads were backwards because they arent like the original pump.
I dont know how anyone could repalce the pump and get the fuel system refilled without grounding the test lead to run the pump. Anyway,It works now! thanks
