89 F-250 Radiator Question

The radiator on my 460 engine has two hose fittings on the fill neck just below the cap. The top one has a hose going to the overflow reservoir but the bottom one is open and has no hose. When the radiator does overflow, it comes out of the bottom hole and does not go into the overflow. Whats up with this? Should this be plugged or should the overflow hose connect here instead? The second hole does not appear to be covered up by the radiator cap when it is installed.

Thanks

The second hole should be pluged off. At least that is the way it is on mine. Justin

Bringin' back the thread from the dead! Anyway, what do you plug the second hole with? I've been using vacuum caps, but I've had a spate of back luck with them (one ruptured last year on the side of I-95 while I was towing a boat home, nearly seized my engine; now I just discovered the one I replaced it with was already cracked in half.) So I'm lookin' for something that hold up a little better.

A short piece of hose stuck on it with a bolt stuck in the open end of the hose and two good clamps is a down and dirty fix. Looks like crap but it works. I found a silicone rubber cap in the trash at the truck shop and put it on mine with a clamp and it has been working for nearly 3 years. I think that cap was off of a new injector line. I don't know if they sell a cap something like that over the counter or not?
