Found my truck at Maxwell Ford in Austin...'05 Lariat Supercrew 4x4 Black on Arizona Beige / Tan Leather. It has every option except the bed extender, already has a spray-in bedliner and tinted windows. They let me drive it yesterday afternoon while they had my car in for appraisal (classic dealer trickery...they want me to fall in love, so I'll throw my keys at them and say "I'll take whatever you give me!"). I did fall in love, for sure, but their trade offer is off by $2500-3000 of Edmunds and KBB. They're saying "If we can get the sale price on the truck low enough, would you still consider buying it?"
The truck is a demo w/2500 miles...Window sticker of $42K Invoice of $36,575, and I'm wondering how realistic it is to think that they might agree to a sale price of $33,000 out the door. Even if they come up to Edmunds value on the trade, I'm still upside down by $2500. If they agreed to $33K, I would be paying $35,500K (This is still "Out the door"). I would most likely finance through Ford Credit...I am almost sure I would qualify for the 3.9% 60month financing. I'm open to the Red Carpert Option as well. Any dealers or salespeople comments welcome. Thanks in advance.
I don't know anyone at Maxwell. I dealt with Leif-Johnson, but my sales rep has since moved over to Covert. If you need her info, let me know and she'll make you a nice deal. I got about $850 under invoice on my special order. But, to get exactly what you want, she'd have to either trade with Maxwell (not impossible) or order your truck from the factory (took mine 4 weeks last February).
Past all that, you might want to take your car to CarMax up on IH-35 near Parmer/Howard Ln area. They'll give you a fair deal on your car. They're generally in the ballpark of Edmund's and Kelley Blue Book on quoting ... without any haggling. Their offers are good for a week or 500 miles (if I remember correctly). This would take that factor out of having to haggle with the dealership on both sides of the game.
I've never traded with Maxwell Ford. I bought several cars from that dealership when it was McMorris Ford which is, of course, not what you're asking. I currently deal with Covert Ford on Research Blvd. because I know the service manager very well (sold him his house) as well as several other people in the service department. I bought my '04 FX4 for actual dealer cost plus half of the dealer holdback. If you can determine the dealer invoice amount, you'll have a better idea of what they should be willing to do. In addition, I personally would factor in something because the truck you're interested in is a demo. Don't let them shuck you for the bedliner and tinted windows. They don't pay anything for them when you trade-in, why should you pay more when you buy a used (demo) vehicle? Bear in mind that the trade value of used cars isn't very good right now because the market is saturated due to sales generated by all of the various new car sales incentives. The best bet to find a good deal is to be flexible on what you're looking for.

I get my truck serviced at Maxwell, and I've been very pleased with the service department. They are much faster than Truck City or Leif Johnson, and I feel like I am treated better. A while back when they first changed from McMorris to Maxwell, service was pretty poor, but it has improved a lot over the years. I can't say much about the sales department, because all I have done with them is a test drive. However, the salesman was more informed about the vehicle than any other salesman I've seen, and took the taime to explain all the features, etc.
Hope this helps!
