wipers

I Have A 2000 E350 Van. My Problem Is The Wipers Do Not Have Intermitend And Also Do Not Park. When I Use The Squirts They Work But Do Not Turn Off Until I Turn Off Truck And Restart It Then Manually Park Them. Any Ideas? I Think There Is A Box Under The Dash To Control This But Not Sure.

This is a BS Ford problem. My 2003 has already been in for warranty for this exact problem. They put a new Turn Sig/ Wiper switch stalk unit in becasue they said it was shorted. Did not solve problem. So it needs to go back.

A friend of mine had a 2000 Eddie Bauer Explorer, same problem. His sister works for Ford in engineering. She said it is a common problem (the BS part; fix it already!) and a defective GEM module is what casuses it ( what ever that is) Guess I will find out when it goes back to have the same problem fixed.

In the mean time sounds like a critcial SAFETY defect since he ssaid at times the wipers would just STOP working as well as come on by themselves along with not turning off.

Let's make some noise. Print this out and take it to your Ford dealer and tell them it is NOT uniquie to your van!

200e350... Please post your results, I have developed exactly same problem with a 92 E350. Started with wiper. switch on with wipers frozen to windshield. I don't want to throw parts at it. I'm leaning toward the control module, but have not yet had the opportunity to test it out. Thanks, Hanno

I had the same problem with my '92 E 150, in fact, that is how I found this forum.

Before the advice here, I had replaced the column switch assembly, did'nt work. Then, I replaced a relay, that did'nt work.

Somebody here suggested that I open up the wiper motor housing and to check the contacts. Well I'll be danged, there it was, a broken contact. I simply soldered it back on and my problems were over.

I've had good luck with online forums, lots of knowledge to be had.

Good luck.

Sucess! Decided to actually read the arcane service manual instructions about troubleshooting the system, found (buried at the end of the motor current draw section) the "Parking check" which simulates wiper park using jumpers directly to the motor and switch terminals. Result... Nothing. So instead of taking out the motor, I removed the cover from the park switch and found one of the three sliding contacts had overheated, oxidized, and would not pass current. A very light filing cleaned off the oxidation, cleaned the rest, then redistributed some of the contact grease in the housing onto it. No soldering required like above post. Fired the mother up and all is as it should be. Cost "zero" as I can't charge myself for labor (I'm too expensive

wiper motor

Got my wipers fixed. I could of fooled around with it but I use this truck to make a living and it is a safty issue. I took it to a pro shop and payed them to diagnose problem. Ok they said its multifunction switch on column. We order it and I go to get it fixed. They switch the multifunction switch and it does the same thing. Guess what? He says its the motor and for same money he will do it. Good ! Then he comes back and says still no squirts or park. I tell him fine Ill fix it at a later time. I pay him $216.00 and leave. I have intermitent and park and squirts. All is fine but he is stuck with switch not me for anouther $208.00. Thats why I had them do it.

Okay, finally looks like Ford Dealership solved my wiper problem (under warranty). After they replaced the MF switch, the problem returned, especially noticeable when it was rianing and damp. they checked again and found the Wiper motor had a bad ground. They replaced motor and confirmed good ground and now they are working correctly!

You guys are great!
Fixed two vans today with the same problems as described by "200e350". Both were related to damaged contacts on the wiper motor. On my car (E-350, 92 mod) one of the contacts were broken, and had to be soldered. On the other car the contact was oxided, but came to life with a little filing.
Thanx for good advices. Guess I would have thrown in some costy parts without these advices.
