Fuel Filter Wrench?

My Friend has a 1997 PSD and wants to change trhe fuel filter, but the cap
must have been overtightened since it's impossible to break loose. Someone alredy tried to loosen it and just manged to break off some of the tabs in the
process. Does anyone know if they make a special wrench or tool to loosen the top without ruining it? Thanks for any advice I can get

A big oil filter wrench is good. I've also seen people take a piece of big PVC pipe and cut notches in it for the tabs - that way you're pressing on all 4 tabs at once and are less likely to break any. (You drill a hole farther up the pipe to add a T-handle)

Ok... on my last post if you click on the http://www.cyclonediesel.com/ford.htm link you get redirected to Motorhaven. I like Motorhaven, but they don't sell this fuel filter wrench, so the redirect sucks. Copy and paste to go to cyclone diesel.

if theres enough tabs left, lay a screwdriver down on the lid and use it for leverage to open it. thats what i had to do.

I use a long socket extension, and extend one end of the extension out far enough away from the filter cap to get leverage.

The screwdriver is what is shown in the ford service manual for the 1997 PSD.

GOSH....wish I had thought of making that wrench from Cyclone....then I could be making 35 smackers on each one of them!

Does anyone here have one? What are they made of?

Thanks for the help guys, I think she's going to order the wrench from Cyclone. I found out the clown the broke the tabs off was using the screwdriver method, so we were a little leery of trying it again.
