Liftgate Lock

Just bought a 2000 Excursion PSD 4X4 last week. So far, I have really enjoyed it. There is just something special about these beasts.

I have had trouble with the liftgate lock not working. I tore into the liftgate and found that the actuator works just fine...the lock mechanism is just a little stubborn. I have soaked it liberally with wd-40. There is alot of dirt road dust in the liftgate body. I hope this solves my problem.

I enjoy this forum and all the posts.

Thanks

Hoppy

Another Liftgate Problem

My 2001 V10 liftgate lock never worked with the lock fob or when activating power locking from the driver armrest switch. I could insert key in the lock and turn it only with great effort, but it would eventually lock. Each time I was afraid I would snap the key off in the lock. I decided to silicone spray inside the keyhole and at the side latches. Immediately, the lock was free moving right to left. I thought "Great, problem solved." Wrong! now the key does easily turn either way but never locks the gate. I am stumped. I can deal with having to manually lock/unlock the gate as I am not in and out of it much, but as it stands, I can't lock it at all. Any ideas?

Take off the inner panel on that liftgate and sit facing backward on the back of the Ex, barn doors open, lift gate closed and see how that mechanism works. Spray liberally lube, clean and maybe even tweak the arm (43186) that goes from the lock to the mechanism. Then it should work freely.

You may not need the new part. Try taking it apart to see if you can free it up. The pics in that thread will help.
