2000 ford ranger abs light no speedometer

I have a 2000 ford ranger 4.0L v6. My problem is the abs light stays on and the speedometer won't work till i hit about 35-40mph.

Can someone help on this?

Welcome to FTE!

Sounds like a common problem. Replacing the ABS speed sensor located on the rear differential is the fix. Easy to do.

Hi guys quick question. I had all of these things happen to me tonight on the way home from work. My ABS light came on, and about 20 miles later the truck would start shifting very hard and reving up like it would not change gears. And then the spedometer went dead no reading what so ever. I was going to take it in to the transmission shop tomorrow to get cheecked out. I decided to get on here and see what it could be. Does this sound like the the same sensor?

Thanks,
Bryan

Thanks for the reply Dave.. Quick question; where is this sensor located? And how much does the sensor cost? I am assuming this can only be gotten from the dealership..

Thanks
Bryan

thanks guys. I had the same problem when I left for work this morning. ABS Light on. No speedometer. Stopped at a local parts house and got the sensor for $7.00. Installed it tonight. Worked like a champ! You guys are a life saver. I hate to think what it would have cost me to take this to a shop.

the napa price is one of the best I have found.....discount auto, autozone and pep boys are more than 2x the price.

There will be a plug on top of the center section of your rear axle. Its right up on top and the only thing with wires going to it. Kinda hard to see until you are under the truck on your back.

I have a 1999 Ford Ranger Extended Cab 4X4 Manual Transmission. My Speedo quit working and the ABS light and now the Service Engine Light are on. Which sensor is the correct one?
