1967 F100 engine swap

I am in the process of swapping out the original 240 out for a 351w. I took some measurements and it appears that 240 pedestals will work width wise but it does not leave much room for a radiator and electric fan up front and a good portion of the transmission will be in front of the fire wall. Is there a kit of some kind available?

Thanks

what you need to do is look at the frame rail where the towers are mounted and you will see another hole behind it. another one is covered by the tower. unbolt the tower and move it back to that set of holes . the front are for the six and the back are for a v8

Get the mounts for a smallblock and the engine will be back to the firewall. You can pick those up from the junkyard cheaper than getting a new driveshaft made.
Also take your radiator which has two flu's and have a three flu core put in it. The upper and lower radiator hoses from a 67-8 Mustang will work.

4Cammer72,

Thanks for the info. I saw a 67 on the internet yesterday with a 351W and it
looked like the K-member was pushed back. I am wondering if the K-members are different for 67's that originally had a big block? I know that the 67-70 models are the same but the 70 was the only one with a small block. I didn't have any luck finding one to look at. I think that Ford changed the K-members in the early 70's because we purchased some pedestals from an early 70's truck with a small block and they don't fit the contour of of the 67 K-member.

the frame is the same on all 67 to 72 i believe , the front half of the frame is even the same up to 79.the i6 had a little bit taller tower than the v8's but i've done three v8 swaps to the i6 towers with no problems when i relocated them to the back set of holes. i think they changed the towers also for the 351 modified and the 400. it's just a pain finding a oil pan for those engines .

J&T, Any motor stands from 65 to 79 will interchange with your frame.
All you need is the correct set for the engine you are putting in.
When you get the engine out of your truck, pull the engine stands out of it.
Clean the frame rails and cross member realy well. You will find there are actualy several sets of hole on both sides.
Get a set of small block stands and move them around on the frame until all 4 holes in the stand match up to holes in the frame and cross member.
Then simply bolt it down. You cant put them in the wrong place because they only fit one way.
Make sure to always put the tallest stand to the driver's side.
A lot of the times the holes get full of dirt and grease and you can't see them. If you get everything realy clean it will make life easy. Once you get the motor stand on the right set of holes, you will see that the contour is fine.

Fixed

Docholiday,

Thanks for the post. I took the small block pedestals and placed them on the K-member. The driver side pedestal uses the orginal top frame holes as the I6. The passenger side sets one hole back on the frame rail than the original I6. As far a the K-member, we will have to drill a new hole for the back of each pedestal into the k-member (no big deal). The pedestals with the motor mounts on them are off-centered by 1 inch which is correct due to the fact that the rear bolt hole in the motor is off-centered 1 inch from one side of the block to the other.

I hope this helps everyone who is planning on a 289/302/351W swap in a 67 style f100 truck.

I am located in Sachse, TX just outside of Dallas

Thanks to all

J&T,If you have to drill any holes, it's still not in the right place. You should not have to drill any holes. Look at it some more. Is your frame and cross member good and clean?
Rodney, you need to be a little more specific. Are you going to use a 428 or a 429. They are 2 different engines. A 428 looks like a 390....A 429 looks like a 460. I can tell you how to do it either way, but I need to know which engine you are using.

Docholiday,

Didn't see any other holes in the K-member that would work. The mounts sit perfectly level on the K-member as well as the frame rail and are level across. Maybe Ford forgot to drill some holes that day LOL.

Question crew cab motor swap

I do not know which engine to use. I have not found an engine yet---I do have a 460 but had not thought about using it---only because 428 and 429 sounds cooler when you say it (shallow reason). All I need the engine to do is be very dependable, have enough reserve power to spin the tires for my kids without having to put to much strain on the motor and be able to dress it up for the local car shows. What would be your suggestion on which engine to use. I am not a go fast person or a hot rodder---I want it to sound good, be reliable for my family, and look good under the hood. Thanks Rodney---I also have other questions you might could help with under crew cab rebuild in the 68 to 72 forum.

Rodney, If you already have a 460, that's the one I would use. You'll save money by not having to buy an engine. A 429 and 460 are actualy the same block with a different stroke.
I have a 460 in my pick up. It is very dependable, and it has power to spare. I have no problem spinning the tires.
How dependable an engine is, will depend on how well you put it together as well as the components that it is assembeled with.
Any engine will spin the tires if it is built right. How good an engine looks will depend on how much time you spend to detail it, and how much money you want to spend for prettys.
How good an engine sounds will depend on the cam shaft and exhaust system that you pick.
I know it's shallow to think it's cool to hear 429 or 428, but you need to think about how much you want to spend because 428's and 429's can get realy expensive. Once again, I would go with the 460 because you already have it, but that's just my opinion and your the one who has to live with your choice.
J&T, Something doesn't sound right. You need to clean the frame rail and crossmember extra good and move the motor stands around until all 4 holes line up. If all 4 don't line up, it's not in the right place. If you put it in the wrong place and just drill a hole, your engine won't fit right, if it fits at all.
Mike.

Docholiday,

The K-member has been scrubbed and repainted. There are 4 holes on each side of the K-member and I have moved them all around but only one hole on each side works. The small block pedestals are wider than the I6's. I was at a wrecking yard this weekend and saw a 68' with a 390. It had the same pedestals as an I6 just pushed back. However, the mounting pattern on the 390 block is vertical and the 351W is horizontal (staggered from one side to the other). Could the reason for the missing hole be that there wasn't a small block in these trucks until 70.

I think that the small block 289 was an option in 1965 trucks.
A friend of mine has a 65 that came with an inline 6. He used 75 model 302 stands and all 4 holes lined up. I'm not realy sure what the problem is, but something is wrong.

Mike, Only two engines were available in 65 a 240-6 or 352-8. A dealer could have swapped something in after it arrived though.
