intakes for a 300I6
i have a 1979 f100 with a 1975 300 inline six in it. it runs fine and i get good gas mileage but i want sumthin that has more pick-up and go that just a single barrel carb. ive looked at triple 1 barrel intakes but i cant find them anymore. does anyone know where i can find one?

Offenhauser makes a 4 bbl intake for about $200. Many hotrod catalogs have it as well as JC whitney. Clifford makes one too, but $$$. Don't over-carb; they say a 390 or 450 is best. You'll need to open up that exhaust, too. The later split manifolds from FI engines are supposed to really help, or you can always get headers. Ya can't put more in without lettin' more out! IMO, 3 one bbl's would drive you nuts keepin' 'em tuned, but it would look cool. Clifford still makes tose, too, I think. There is a sticky at the top of this forum about more power. Check it out.

speaking of 300 I6's does anyone need one? i have a spare from a '85 ton truck that i got for free. i dont knwo the miles, but its been rebuild by my mechanic in alabama. runs smooth and everything. i was gonna use it in a old 32 frame for a rat rod fixer-upper but i prolly gonna sell it. goes to highest price. if you would like to get a hold of me, my home number is (865)470 8036, ask for jacob.

Where are you located, im in alabal, I wont give ya much, but oh well. I think getting 200 outa a intake and headers is gonna be a little more pheasable. Ive been laughed at for basically the above remark. I think that the guy who got his totally custom built buy the owner of an engine building shot is somewhere around that. But im talking custom everything.

im in knxoville. well the stock 300I6's produced anywhere form 112 to 125 hp depending on year. mine has approxiamately 115hp, and with headers i can increase that by 50 %, so thats 175hp +/-, and with headers, and a cam itll produce 150 more hp so thats 325 hp so....i may also be wrong, but jegs is where i got all my info.

I say no way to headers adding a 50% horsepower increase. Same thing to the idea of a cam adding 150 horses. I think Jegs is leading the Tuner generation to believe things like adding a K&N air filter will turn their grocery getter into a street drag car. Great marketing scheme but you dont just bolt on all that is necessary to get maximum power and efficiency out of an engine. I guess in the age of Tuners it is necessary to keep things as simple as possible when it comes to engine work. I work in parts. I know the general mentality out there. I'm sorry but the other day I had a "mechanic" hand me an exhaust clamp marked 2 1/4 and ask me if that meant two and a quarter. This person works on cars! Believe me, keep it simple. Somebody may have to resort to reading directions or getting training. "The Horror" Brando
