It's one of the "Y-Block" engines. Pretty cool looking with seperate valley pan and intake. The intake manifold sits above the motor, surrounded by air. Being a relatively short stroke (3.44), over-square engine, it has sent more than a few chebbys home in disgrace.

Ford produced them from '54 to '64 in the U.S., put them in sedans, trucks, Mercurys, Lincolns. Ever hear the phrase "Thunderbird Special"? This is the motor.
