Mr4speed...Your dad is very cool! I have a 7 year old and I am making plans as to what to get him to fix up in 5 or 6 more years. Any suggestions? A Ford truck, of course, but what year?

Packrat 56I'm not the one you were posing the question too. But I would stay away from the later years that were computer and emission controlled. I would say 78 and earlier would be a good learning truck. I just don't find the emission controlled trucks to be fun to tinker with.

I'm the same age as my truck. In fact we were born on the same date, according to numbers. That makes me 48. I got my truck in March of 2004. My first car was a 66 Mustang GT. I still own a 66 Mustang which has original 68,000 miles. My next car will be a 40 Ford Coupe.

Thats ironic, when I saw my 51 in a field in Graham Washington. That was why I purchased it, because its model year was the same year I was born. I wanted the 53-56 model body style but this one I just couldn't pass up.

I don't think I could list all the vehicles I used to own. But I can name some of my favorites.

67 Sunbeam Tiger
66 Chevelle conv.
56 Chevy conv.
and, oddly enough,
67 Rambler Rebel SST (hipo 343 4sp)

current inventory;
29 Model A roadster
53 Studebaker 1/2 ton
54 F100
55 Ford Victoria 2dr ht V8
55 Chevy 2dr ht
56 Ford Fairlane 2dr sedan
79 MGB
86 Mustang GT conv.
and two parts cars.

Got my eye on a 49 Studebaker Champion 4dr.

Think I got a car habit?

43...my Dad bought his '57 Chevy PU new...all I remember as to how long I've worked on old trucks/cars, was when I could read wrench sizes and pass them to my Dad.

Funny how thing turn out, when I pull something into the shop these days (whether his or mine) he's the one running for the tools

I'm 18 now and I started helping my dad work on cars since before I could remember. My dad also gave me my '55, which I started working on a little over a year ago, since then I've bought two other cars for parts to use on my truck a '69 T-Bird and an '85 Jag.

47. My first vehicle was a 57 Chevy pickup I bought for $200. For the most part though I have been into muscle cars and 4X4's. A few years back I decided to get back into old stuff but I have been playing with cars since I was 10. Who do you think did all of dads maintenance.

You know what, all of us with Father/Son stories are really lucky! I lost my Dad in 2003. Enjoy those times while they last. I can swear most days he is in the garage with me, instilling his patience in me to do it right. My 15 year old looks a lot like him, and sometimes when I see his old soaked coveralls sticking out from under the car, I see my Dad and just smile. My son doesn't fully understand yet, but maybe someday. Well the screen is getting blurry for some reason, so I need to stop.

If you still can, give Dad a good old FORD hug.

I'm 52. Been working on things as long as I can remember, grew up on a farm in Ohio. I've lost track of how many different Fords I've had, the 48 F5 I've got now has been in the family since 1960. By the way, around here we don't call it "Restoring Classics", in my part of Ohio were are still using them.( Have heard rumors Ford has some new thing called an Overhead Valve Engine, would love to see one if it's true)

I'm also the same age as my truck, 53, and I see a lot of common interests and past rides with you all, outside of the old trucks. Past rides include:
-- just about every kind of Brit sports car (MGB, MGB/GT, Triumph Spitfire, big Healeys), plus Fiat 124, Sunbeam Imp, SAAB Sonett III
-- just about every kind of Brit motorcycle (Triumphs, Nortons, Beezers) including 2 of the new Triumphs at present (Legend 900 and Trophy 900)
-- Harleys (Sportsters and Big Twins, one chopper)
-- Corvairs (late-model Corsa's)
-- 4x4's, incl. ****** Wagon and Scout
-- my college ride was a '53 F-100 223 ci I got for $250 in excellent running condition, that's what got me into this again
-- Mustangs, Camaro's (currently a '97 Z28 for daily driver)

To be honest, I'm not a die-hard Ford, Chevy, or MoPar fan, there are certain ones of each I like, and just as many of each I don't like. None are perfect!

Is there a list of members with their locations (state, at least) somewhere? I'm near Albuquerque, not exactly the center of the rodding universe, but I am sure there are some of you close by.

Walston - My condolescence to you and your family on your father's passing. I'm in the same category. My father passed in 2000. He thought me everything and how to be self sufficient. Kinda getting away from the truck thing. My dad was a Senior master tool &Die maker, which meant he use to make all kinds of trick stuff for my cars out of stainless, billet etc. If something didn't fit, he'd make something to make it fit. It's been a few years, and like you I wish he'd walk into my garage and give me a hand. Now, I have two sons, so it's my turn to teach them what my dad taught me. By the way, my dad was a Ford man and had several Fords. Loved mustangs and Cougars. Actually, loved the AC Cobra, but couldn't afford one at the time.

I just turned 54. My F-100 just turned 52. I've had it for thirty years. It's the first vehicle I've owned that had more than three wheels.
