1993 L and Horrid gas mileage

I just got my 1993 Lightning and I知 distraught over the gas mileage. I have come the conclusion I知 only getting 6-10!!! This is a bad BAD thing. Gas is still $2.35 for 93 in my town.

I would love to know what I can to get this truck to the 12-17 range. I have been told it can be done.

As the winter time comes , I知 even willing to do slight mods to the motor and I知 not freaked out about the loss of HP or speed. I just want to have fun with my truck , not be in the poor house.
<O</O
So far I have changed the plugs and cleaned out the K&N filter and got new tires. Some times I think I might be getting up to 12 MPG after this , but then I drive around town 15 miles go to 1/8 of a tank. That痴 about 7.5 MPG!

<O</O

Any help and tips would be greatly appreciated. <O</O

I don,t know what kind of mods yours has. When I first got mine the best I could get was 12mpg.I found the aftermarket plenum spacer was leaking I removed it and got 15mpg. 15 is the best I have been able to get.It is a great truck as I am sure you are finding out.

Truck is 98% stock, the cats have been removed and an x-pipe installed. K&N cone filter installed.

How are you checking your mileage? On mine to check I would just run the rear tank empty and then put 10 gallons in it untill it ran empty again 150 miles is 15mpg.That,s one thing great about dual tanks. Also my 15mpg is freeway miles I have never check it around town.I have my timing bumped up to about 12 or 14, which might help a little.

I get 18 on the highway with mine. Its dead stock. But I did have bad mileage and it was blowing some black smoke. After Ford garage ripping me for a diagnostic check and shrugging their shoulders, I tracked it down to the fuel regulator. It went bad and I had 75psi on the fuel rail instead of the 35 to 45 that it should have.

It must be your front spoiler creating too much aerodynamic drag.
