Superdarren, That is not true. Nitto makes a 285 60 18 Grappler that would fit perfecty on the stock 18inch wheels.

Thanks 98Cobra. That make my decision harder now. Do I want the BF Goodwrench's at 32.6" tall or the Nittos at 31.5" tall. I would also love to choose between the nitto 325/60/18's (32.99" tall) or the 325/65/18's (34.88" tall) but I would be afraid the tire would pop off when I go 4 wheeling. Has anyone heard of a tire rated for a 9" or 9.5" wide wheel coming off of a 7.5" wide wheel during off roading?

Also a question for
Magnuso[B]. You said you have 35" tires on with the daystar kit. How much rubbing do you get? I have the daystar kit also and would love some 35"'s. Thanks. I can't believe you went 5" wider than your wheel. You got guts man.

wont it be harder for the tire to come off since its getting jammed against the wheel? but then with all the pressure a rock and just the right hit could blow it out. i'll probably try it soon and i think its gonna be fine unless you do some really serious stuff.

The problem is not them coming off the rim because it's to narrow. The problem will be tire wear. The minimum width for a 275 is 7.5" and 8" for 285 and 8.5" is recommended. The rim will pinch the tire mounts beads too close together. This will try to lift the outer edges of the tire off the ground. Under normal pressures you'll find your tires wearing down the center. Of course you can always lower the air pressure to get the rubber flat on the road if you don't mind a mushy ride..

After 5k on my 2004 Super Crew, I had Goodyear Wrangler AT/S's put on. they look great and handle great. This weekend I get to see how they perform in the white stuff, expecting 6 -12 " Saturday.

That sounds logical Dunk. I don't mind a little mushy ride to get the tires I want. My main problem with all this stuff is the way they size the tires. I like the old way in inches where I could understand what all the numbers meant without pluging them in on a website.

I'm excited about the white stuff too NR2D. My Brother-in-law has a ton of land in Pa to go play on.

Believe me I've been down this road before. I went from 235 x 85 x 16 to 255 x 85 x 16's on my old F250HD and had nothing but trouble getting them to wear right.

The thing is you'll barely see a difference in size between a 275 and 285.. It's not worth the possible hassel for such a small upgrade. I'd wait a few month and see what tire manuf's come out with..

Ford screwed everyone putting 7.5" rims under a truck with such monsterous wheel wells.... Then topped that off by not leaving any room in the wheel wells for bigger rubber without going to a lift kit. No doubt this takes most of the incentive out of building a bigger tire for the tire manuf's..

Time will tell, but I suspect with all the alum front end parts they may not live long with heavier rubber under the front ends.
