I got a funny high-pitched squealing one day this winter from the front-end somewhere, but it seemed to be ice stuck in something, it went away when it warmed up and then never came back. Still have the hubs locked too...
Gotta check on things this spring, I still have 6 months on the factory warranty left, plus another year on the extended

howling 4x4
Baloney to this 15 day email waiting period. If anyone has an answer to the howling/ grinding noise posted by Big T. please email me at cmccall@consolidated.net. My 2000 F-250 did it before the Warn hubs were installed, and is still doing it. I stop the noise by flipping to 4x4 and back again. The noise is speed sensitive, not to engine RPM. It will come usually when a bump or dip is encountered. My dealer is perplexed, and it will never do it with him behind the wheel. I'm glad someone else has the same problem.

that "needle bearing" would be unlikely. Mine (2000 F250 Superduty 4x4 w/ Preimum Warn hubs)) will always stop when I flip the cab switch to 4x4, and it also never happens if I leave the hubs engaged with cab switch in 2wd. However, neither of those positions is good for long term driving. I think if a wheel bearing was the culprit, it would be constant in all settings. I'm still looking for the source of the noise./ thank you/ cmccall

Howling my old 99 SD had the same problem, hit a bump and the whole truck shook! Axels where engaging while you drove into the hubs. Quick check is to lock your hubs to see if it goes away? Not a fix but a check to see if that's the culprit. My 99 had this problem starting at 15K all the way to 96K when I sold it. Last set of axels and hubs went in around 94K. All in all 3 sets of axels, 5 sets of hubs (manual) and 4 sets of rotors and front brakes. Splines on axels got ripped off trying to engage front hubs while in motion. Thought this was only a 99 problem? My 02 has none of this at 76K.trimman

thank you. Locking hubs does make noise disappear, as well as going in 4x4 without hubs engaged. I would like for Ford to solve the problem BEFORE I ruin three sets of axels, 4 sets...etc..etc. Please post any other links or experience you have had with this problem, and thanks for the help.. only 60k on 2000 SD..with almost no 4x4 mileage. Lived in city until recently.

99 350 all I can say you were one lucky guy. Mine also delivered in 3/98 was in the dealer every week after 15K with sevice guys scatching their head about this. Finally after a few dozen visits it actually happened while a tech was driving with me? OK, they changed everything and it happened again and again and again! Then I had to drive with hubs engaged for 8 months while Ford was re engineering new parts to fix their crappy first model year mistake? The band aid didn't last long! I still had problems almost to the day I sold it. No recall, nothing, they kept it quiet in house. Some dealers (not mine) lemonded trucks to owners with this problem as I found out later? Owned the truck 3 years plus till 96K, conservatively speaking it was in the shop well over a hundred days for the same problem. Ordered a 02 much to the laughs of my friends as Ford never did anything for you? I loved the truck if it could only work? The 02 is fine but I should get a purple heart from you guys buying another Ford after what I went through? trimman
