Two kinds of seat belts?

I was at the dealer picking up my truck, but as I was waiting for it to get out of the body shop I was looking at other f150's as they installed a new hitch for me since I got rear ended last week.

I didn't know theres two kinds of seat belts. One kind is having the sealt belt attached to the pillers, and another kind I saw was the sealt belts on the seat itself with no piller mounting? How come theres two kinds of seat belt positions? Whats the piller mounting seat belts do that the seat itself seat belt hook up can't? Also are there any Advantages and disadvantages of the two kinds??

I have the seat belts attached to the pillers, and thought all the f-150's were the same until I saw one that wasn't and had the seat belt on the seats.

I have no idea. I have a 04 larriat s/c with captains chairs and my seat belts come out of the seats. The positioning of the belt seems alot more comfortable than having it come off the pilar.

The SuperCabs have them connected to the seat because there is no pillar there to connect to. I know the SuperCrews have them connected to the pillar. I'm not sure about the regular cabs, but I am thinking they are probably in the seat also since they have a small rear door that opens like the SuperCab.

Yep, the regular cab also has them in the seat since there's no pillar.

Yep, super crews only one that has belts on pillar, because they have one...I have he scab, I like the belts on the seat, think they are handier.. One thing for sure, with them on the seatback they are a nitemare for seat cover makers..I think there are very few if any that make them to actually fit this type..But. I'm sure they will be coming in the furture...

It might not look safe, but that's the exact type of seatbelt used in the IIHS frontal crash test. I'd say the seatbelt in the SuperCab and regular cab work just as well as in the Screw.. Then again, i'm not an engineer, so what do I know.

Nice frontal crash only so what happens when you get a side impact ,well if you a child ( sitting in the rear of a CC F-150 you die ) from the ages of 8-13 ,did you know that the seat belts are only made for adults .I`am kind of an expert on this by default ( my 8 year old Alexa was killed 10-28-04 by a side impact and her friend Shelby both sitting in the back seat where they should be ,The cause of death of my wonderful Alexa was Atlanto -Occipital Disarticulation ,this means her brain stem was pulled from the brain simular to Dale Earnhearts ,I think there should be a change in the way seat belts are made for adults only ,since they tell you your kids are safer in the back seat

I have a SCAB and I kind of like the belt on the seat. What's funny is watching someone that has never been in a '04 SCAB get in the passenger seat and reach around for their seat belt. After they wave there hand around several times, I finally tell them to look on the seat.
