1978 Ford Bus With 330hd V8

I bought a 1978 Ford BUS with the 330 HD V8 ENGINE, and its running too rough to pass smog. I want to check a few things, but I don't have any info on this engine. I know it is an FT block, but not much else other than that. In particular I need to know the dwell angle and what a good compression test results would be.

Thanks,

Earl-Dale

Dwell angle should be around 28 - 30 degrees. Cant help much on compression test results, every engine is different. For a good running engine though, the lowest cylinder should be within 80% of the maximum. The closer the better.

That is a low compression industrial engine - built to perform within specifications but mostly to last. I would not be surprised if you will have to put leaner jets in the carb to pass smog - back then gas was cheap and work engines ran rich to help keep the exhaust valves cool.

btw, the Ford shop manule I bought for my 72 included all the FT engine specs.
