my engine has almost 93000 on it, i am just now thinking of putting performance parts on it, my truck has been a vacation vehicle a trailer hauler an off road vehicle and is now redone with big rims and is going to be a street cruiser, i doubt with how little i drive and how much maintenance i do (oil change every 2000 miles for example) that the engine will ever have to be rebuilt

Tore mine down with 248,000 mile on it and tthe engine was literally within new service spec on all parts, except the POS fiber cam gear. Still crosshatch in the cylinders. Amazing engine. You might put gas in the tank, but it runs like a diesel. I call it the PMD, or Poor Man's Diesel. Greatest gasoline truck engine? Maybe. Definately one of the top 3, and definately one of the top ten of all time, gas or diesel. Possibly the longest lasting. My future brother in law works over at UPS and they still have alot of the brown vans running the 300. He says the get between 300,000 to 500,000 miles between overhauls. That's constant heavy load, stop and go, start up and shut down miles. Fantastic.

No s%$# my first truck was a 300 and through the years certain owners didnt take great care of it so i was running detergents through it to clean it out and more than once clogged the oil sump or the filter and babyed it home with little to no oil pressure, once i got it clean i found out how loose the bottom end really was, the truck still never skipped a beat for me and we would set it on the frame bumpers in the fall hauling firewood through the southern Indiana hills, the truck never hesitated to do what it was told even when it ate the gear on the distributor to the point that it got so bad the truck wouldnt run (half the teeth were missing when i pulled it), i sold it to a fella and told him that the truck wasnt pretty and that the bottom end was loose but to check the oil every couple of weeks and it would probably be fine, that truck logged a lot of memories with me, and i imagine its still tickin along for the old boy i sold it to
