homemade taillight lenses

Any of you guys know where I could get some red tinted plexiglass? I just read the Classic Trucks article about making your own lenses. Seems pretty cool. Thanks, John

There's a place here called TAP Plastics. They have plastic in any color, tinted or solid, and almost any thickness. They can also cut it to the shape needed.

Check in your Yellow Pages for same type of outfit.

Yellow pages: Plastics, Sheet, rod, tube,Fabricators is the listing you want. Yup red plexi will work, but if you want to be seen and to comply with D.O.T. and most state laws, also buy a piece of prismatic lens material and reverse it on the inside of the red plexi to act as a reflector and to refract the light through the red plexi. Plus it will keep Jonny-Law from stopping you at night and people will actually see your brake lights. This is a good thing. Some of my past customers even tried differing patterns of the prismatic materials to create wild light patterns. ( these clear materials are geared toward the lighting trades. Look up in an office see how many different patterns you will diiscover. Want more cool? dig this: 1/16"opaque white,1/8" translucent red, then 1/16"translucent smoke on top. Looks black until you light up. Very trick.
