How to align Camshaft Sensor?
Is there any way to properly align the camshaft position sensor in a
4.2L V6 (from a 1997 F-150) without having to go out and spend $60 to
$100 for a "synchro positioning tool" ???
I hate to spend that kind of money on a tool that I might never need
again.
TIA, john w.

with the tool it is very simple to set everything -up correctly.the tool keeps the inner shaft in the correct position to the outside body and then it is stated 54 degrees from the water pump face.i know that sounds complicated but mark the position the sensor points on the casting(housing) first before you remove the shaft and also scribe around the large clamping washer. this will garentee its returned position to be correct.
due to the helical gear it will turn (clockwise) when the shaft is dropped down and this will be so far away from the scribed lines if its position is incorrect and if so just lift it back up and reposition it until it does line up. there is an arrow mark on top of the tool to make it very easy to line up. good luck, bokker.
