MPD Improves every day.....

My 5.4 FX4 can go an honest 18 mpg if I drive easy on a quiet freeway at 65. A few months ago, regular unleaded fuel was about $2.47 per gallon in the Bay Area, CA. Now the same stations where I fill up (Tracy area) have it for $1.80 per gallon. Looked at another way, my truck got 7 MPD (miles per dollar) at the old prices, but has now improved to 10 MPD. I knew this truck would get better after breaking in.

Doesn't seem like a good way to look at economy since the price is an uncontrolable variable. MPG is an uncontrolable variable too...so you have 2 variables: MPG and gas price. I guess what I am tryin gto say is if the price of gas goes to $5 per gallon, the truck is not less fuel efficient. Since I can't control the price, I only look at MPG to see the delta in fuel economy.

That's a good way of looking at it! Now I feel better about my mileage.
