Emissions / Valve Cover

I recently put some aftermarket chrome valve covers on my 77 F150. The problem is, like an idiot, I tossed my original valve covers that contained all of the emissions requirements. The emissions tech center now says I need air injection / cats, and all of this stuff my truck never came with.

Any suggestions? Anyone have any original valve covers from a 77 era F150 4x4?

Thanks
John

Hopefully , I'll make it to pullnsave tomorrow. Post the engine displacement, 2 or 4 wheel drive, and transmission. I'll look around and see what's there.

Before the IM-240 program was adopted, I almost had the same experience. Fortunately, this happened in a shop that my brother worked in. When I pointed out that every decayed piece of equipment was installed at the factory, my brother walked the "new" guy through some type of reference guide. It turns out there were several different configurations, all were acceptable.

Did you happen to go to one of the State run testing centers? Notice the "help wanted" sign, and starting wage? Sad to say that you'll find a better level of expertise at of the smaller, privately owned shops. The people who have been doing emissions forever know what they're looking at.

Good luck, Mike

Emissions / Valve Cover

Thanks for your help. The engine is a 351M, 4 speed manual (T18), and 4 wheel drive.

I think your right. I will also try around to a different shop. They wouldn't even take into consideration last years emissions printout which clearly indicates what was required. Let me if you find anything.

Pop the hood look near to left. you should see a vehicle emission control information lable. Here's a golden oldie for that year tk, pull up the floor mat on the pass side and there you will find the factory spec sheet with color, trim, axle, etc. now that would be way sassy to show them that your truck was civilly disobedient from the plant. look at the alt bracket to see if it has a "risen place for a bolt where an air pump might attatch,a crossover tube between the heads in the rear with a largg vacuum check valve on it, fittings on the exhaust headers with crimped tubes. all these are signs of air pump removals for various configurations and bad news 4 you. good luck

I try to avoid Envirotest at all costs. For all my pre-82 stuff I use Jerry's Emissions at 3rd and Sheridan, he know's his stuff. I don't know where your at, but if you can get there I wouldn't worry about the valve covers.
