Carberator replacement on 1976 460 engine

When he tried to adjust the carb to smooth out the idle, it didn't seem to make any difference what he did to it, it still would not idle smoothly. It also looks like it's leaking gas out of the pot on the carb. He didn't seem to like Holly's, that's why I'm asking questions. Elderbrock was mentioned as a replacement carb.

I've got a Holley 600 with vacume secondaries and an electric choke on my 460 in a 73 model truck. I'm very happy with it. You might consider rebuilding your current Holley, or just replacing it with another one. Everyone has different opinions on the best carberator and it sounds like your mechanic prefers the edelbrock. Ford put Holleys on a lot of these engines when they were new, and they run just fine.

tghe throttle shafts wear on the holleys causing a vacum leak that can't be removed but a direct replacement holley for your truck is suprisingly inexpensive nad about the same plice as the eldelbrok and will bolt right up althuogh I've talked to people with the edelbrock and they love'em but if you get one and you have an automatic tranny you will also have to buy the kickdown kit

If you want the best performance, you need to look at all the fact about edelbrock and holley. First Edelbrock carbs use a center float, works better at angles. Holley uses outboard floats, works better in corners, and flat ground. My 4x4 uses an Edelbrock, and I can out run most other trucks in my class that run Holley. My race car, you know go fast turn left, uses a Holley for the better responce and lack of flooding in hard corners. Just my views, built up by 10 years of use.
