Exhaust question

I am looking for an exhaust system that exits behind the rear wheels on both sides (driver and passenger) at a slight angle. I know Gibson makes this system but it does not fit the FX4 (its called the Extreme). I have no idea why it would fit all models except for the FX4. Anyway, does anyone know of another company that makes this style exhaust?

Thanks in advance for any answers!

Doesnt fit the FX4, huh? Strange. You could always just have a local exhaust shop bend you up a new exhaust system just like that Gibson system. It should be cheaper than anything you buy 'off the shelf' too.

I ordered that exhaust from Proficient Performance. For my FX4 AND IT DID NOT FIT. The only problem with having a local exhaust shop custom making your exhaust is. Its not stainless steel or aluminumized pipe. Depending on where you live that is a big deal. I live in N.H. and my last custom made exhaust system only lasted 3 Years. It rusted out. The only shops around hear that custom bend stainless pipe are much to expensive. $750 at one and $800 at another. I wanted dual turn outs behinde each rear wheel in the worst way for my FX4. I ended up going with the Banks Monster Exhaust single out the factory side. Fit perfect looks good and sounds better than any catback dual system I have owned. I love the look of the duals but I am very happy with the Banks system.

Not aluminized? Ive never seen non-aluminized at my local shops. That seems to be the industry standard. I fully understand about the harsh weather and stainless steel. On my last vehicle, I swapped the entire system...headers to tip, with stainless steel. Knowing that this unit doesnt fit, I might opt for a Bassani 3" catback when the time comes. I had one on my bronco before the Gibson I sold it with, and it was a great system. I have a few video/sound clips of both systems if anyone wants to hear them. Are the duals just for looks 98Cobra? A single 3" should actually yield you more performance than duals. FWIW, a mandrel 3" can flow enough for ~360rwhp.

Yes I want that system just for looks. I think the single pipe is just not as good looking as the duel rear out each side. I have mixed feelings about the duel rear exit, so I have been waiting for a company to make the system out each side. I don't understand what about the FX4 would be different than other models. Maybe Gibson will make the system eventually for my truck.

While we are on the subject, if I supercharge in the future (which I do plan on some day) is a single 3inch catback big enough for the whipple 5.4 charger? How about duel 2.5's?
Thanks in advance!

You would need to know exactly how much power it will add at the rear wheels. Also, if you do add a charger, you will really want to upgrade to headers, and probably a high flow cat at the least, to keep up with the added exhaust flow.

FX4Jim3, Is yours the system I described (exit behind the rear wheels on an angle on both sides)? How does it fit on your truck? I don't understand why but it states on the Gibson website the "Extreme" DOES NOT fit the FX4. This is the exhaust I really want, mainly because of its agressive looks.
BTW- how does it sound?
Do you have any pictures of it on your truck?

Thank You in advance!

Yes it is the system you described. It fits like Ford made it. Just order one for the supercrew. I don't have any pictures yet. If it ever stops raining here in Ohio I will take some snap shots. How does it Sound? When I first put it on I thought it was a little quite for my taste, but all my freinds said it was cool. after 30 years in construction my ears are a little num. All in all I like it. It seems to be getting a little louder the more I drive it ,but thats not a bad thing.

I just went on the website for the place you bought yours. It says nothing about it not fitting on the FX4 but it does say that if you have 4WD, you must remove the spare tire for the exhaust to fit. Did you have to do this with yours?

Thanks again!

Buy your own stainless pipe from Whitney and have it bent/welded locally... I've done it a bunch of times.
