1983 F150 STEERING COLUMN
I've got an 83 F150 with a lot of play in the tilt area of the steering column. Everybody seems to think it is easier to replace the entire column rather than fix the worn out joint. I need some tech help. Does anybody know what year columns will work in the 83 F150. Salvage yards locally have no 83 F150 columns and do not know much about trucks to try and sell me a different year column. HELP !!

'80-91 should work, but you'll have to use the aluminum bracket off your original. Also, you MUST get the same style: floor/column shift; cruise/non. Otherwise, you'll have more problems. Make the junk yard include a good '87-91 intermediate shaft with the replacement column, and don't pay more than $90 with a good wheel & horn pad.

Where did you find a steering column online? I have the same problem, only worse. I broke the mechanism that locks my tilt wheel into place. I'll be going down the road, and if I flinch too hard, boom, my steering wheel is down in my lap.
I have had terrible luck finding any decent parts in the junkyards of north Alabama. I would love to find a good online source.
Thanks,

Rick, I haven't found anything online as of yet. I did an internet search with the salvage yards and got several replies with quotes from $125 up to $250. My local 'junk' yards say I will not get one in good shape for less than $250. I got a lead to go to www.fordpartsonline.com and have talked with those guys. I have to figure out what the part I need is and then get back to them. You may try to contact them 1-800-549-2005. They seem to be very helpful. If you know what part you need. Ask for a steering diagram if you need help. They faxed me one right away. Good luck,

This not necessarily on the exact subject, but since ya'll have 83 F150's I thought I might pose this question here. I am having trouble with the horn. Hot wire to horns=works. Power to rubber horn, ok. Horn relay is 3 spaded, but only 1 wire running from it to the horns? This doesn't seem right, shouldn't there be at leas 2 wires, one "in" and on "out"? How many wires on your relays and where do they run to & from?
