Question 2007 Super Duty

I just saw a spy shot of the new SD on detnews.com.

Anyone heard anything about the new truck yet (engine and suspension changes; or rumors)? The article mentioned changes were to be made but had no specifics.

(I'd post it but I can't host it)

Doesn't look all that different to me.....surely not "Major"

Quote from detnews.....

Ford's Super Duty pickups due for major makeover

After a substantial makeover and some modest mechanical changes for 2005, Ford Motor Co.'s Super Duty pickups, sold as the F-250 and F-350, are due for a major overhaul in model year 2007.
The big trucks will get revised sheet metal, new cabins with more amenities, upgraded suspensions and additional features. The basic design won't change radically from the current version, and will continue the "Ford tough" styling theme.
Suppliers say the new models are expected to go into production in fall 2006.

Well it looks like even they couldn't figure it out. It's both a "major overhaul" and "not a radical redesign." Uh....

Here's hoping they do some subtle but important stuff, like make the door handles and surrounds out of metal so the trucks don't get ripped off as easily.

The stuff hanging down from the rear suspension looks different to me, but maybe that's just the angle. They wouldn't be going to coils in the rear, would they? Now *that* would be pretty major. (Don't use this post to start that rumor, I'm totally talking out of my hat here.)

Thanks Ken,
We can't get any truck news over on the Cobra site.

It looks like Yeti got the pic up. What do you think? Is it worth waiting for? I wish I knew what "upgraded suspensions and other features" were?

I do like the new sheet metal. I wish they would yank that cover off the grill.

I'd vote for more room in the super cab, and a bed that is halfway between the current length of the 'long' and 'short' bed. How come they don't offer a 4:10 with the diesel?

yeah, who knows exactly what's coming in 2007....my 2000 F350 has 97k miles and runs fine, but if I keep it another year or two, I'll be looking at dumping some money into it for brakes, tires, and anything else that wears out around 100k + miles....I'd rather get a new one now, as the new front coil suspension and redesigned grill and better headlights kinda justify getting new

One of the 'new' things might be increased emissions control equipment. I'm not sure about the rest of the country, but I think I read that here in Calif. the tree huggers have decreed that starting in 2007 diesels will have to meet stringent new emissions regulations. I think we will be required to get every 2 year smog inspections like cars do now. I'm thinking about buying a 2006 to get a new truck before the requirements take place.

Last I read, the new fuel requirements (ULSD - Ultra Low-Sulfur Diesel) start in 2006 by EPA mandate, and even earlier in California, so you might want to look at 2005 trucks and not wait until 2006! (California starting their requirements earlier is a joke, since nobody will be ready for them; I could see there not being any diesels for sale in CA in 2006...and the fuel itself being outrageously expensive, since it won't be rolled out in the other 49 states yet.)

Well, I still have my 99psd, but it's just plain stock....
I have gotten a few new rides in the past year, just not a new SD yet.....not sure what I'm doing.. I'm thinking of doing another hot rod project, so the money may go there instead of building a truck....

We will see......

It's my understanding that the higher quality low sulphur diesel fuel allows for high tech engines with improved performance and better mileage.

There are a ton of European car diesels that meet that description that can't be sold here because they depend on ULSD, which isn't available. So that will be a plus, if they start selling those here. Whether the new truck engines that use ULSD have improved performance and better mileage compared to today's US diesel truck engines remains to be seen... I'm not likely to bet one way or another on that one.
