Autozone or Advance Auto both have colored 194 bulbs. Red Blue Green or Amber usually are in stock.

Now even sillier question, will changing just the bulb change the color of the stock gauge illumination or are the numbers still gonna be that greenish color? And how do I get to the stock bulb anyway? My wife gave me some red colored dome lights for x-mas, I really like the red, I want to change the dash lights to red now, I already know I can get red led's for the a post gauges for a buck a piece. Thanks

My insturment cluster (86) has the green colored lens outside where the bulb goes in.
So without removing the green lens it would be a weird color of light. I am going to attempt removing the green this summer because I also hate the green color.
Bad thing is it will require removing the insturment cluster completely, and probably some disassembly after that.

No real special tools required, just a P.I.T.A. here's a link that describes it all in good detail. http://pages.prodigy.net/stevebaz/index.html

in the tips and tricks, down towards the bottom, it a real long site.

the '97 has regular white bulbs and somehow it makes it into a green color, and the lights are all in one spot on the cluster. it uses a fiber optic like thing to get the color to the numbers. you will prolly end up taking the cluster out to get to them. There is so much crap under the dash that you can't reach up under there and get to them.

I have seen those Led's for the a-pillar guages, does anyone know if those bulbs are the same as the Isspro guage bulbs, cuz the Isspro's use real small bulbs, smaller the 194's. and I cant even find color replacements.

Look up ITP diesel on the web Dennis sells them cheap LED replacement bulbs for the A post gauges.

Since it is that hard to change the dash bulbs I probably will not, just thought it would look cool. Oh well

I have actualy pulled my gauge cluster out twice, and I put a gauge cluster with the factory tachometer into a 95, so I can tear mine out and put it back in, in about an hour.

Reason I mention this is that I will be working away from home from tuesday - thursday, and I know I will get REALY BORED at the hotel, so...
I will tear mine out, and put some red bulbs in and see what happens, if it changes the color, and anything else that I find along the way I will share.
look for a reply from me around friday afternoon.

thanks rooster. do that right now.

Yep, so I got home early and just couldn't resist.

For all you reading this with the 93-97 style trucks, you are stuck with green numbers forever. . BUT...

by changing the bulb color you can change the color of the needles. I had a red bulb in first, and that looked funny, still had green numbers, but a orange like needle, so I put a green bulb in and now the needle is a light blue, and the numbers are a little but blue, but still mainly green, dont know how it will affect a newer gauge cluster, have to talk Rooster into doing it.

So, I drove 500 miles with the "new" blue lights in my dash, and I DEFINETLY LOVE the blue bulbs. there not quite as bright as before, and the blue needles are pretty sweet, definetly recommend it to anyone with a 97 style gauge cluster, kinda a pain, but cool look. If I can EVER figure out how to download the new digital camera I will send pics.
