Has anyone done a 3.0 to 4.0 Engine swap?

My '96 3.0 just lost a cylinder, (#2) since there seams to be a shortage of 3.0's in New England, has anyone done a 3.0 to 4.0 swap?

I have looked in "The Ranger Station" and they talk about a 2.9 to 4.0 swap, but I have seen nothing about a 3.0 to 4.0 swap.

Any help would be appreciated!

The 2.9 > 4.0 is easy since there from the same family, the 3.0 isn't. You'll need the electronics and may need to mod the engine mounts and I'm not sure if the tranny has the same bolt pattern, I've heard yes and no.

For a complete tear-out swap, it's easy, since the 4.0 was a 96 factory Ranger option, but the engine, tranny, engine mounts, engine harness all go.

If the coolant hoses line up, keep the radiator. You can keep the axle(s), too. if you have 4x4, the t-case is the same.

Either way, get a 4.0L donor truck and you'll have all you need.
