Question Headers/Y-Pipes

Does anyone know of an economical headers and Y-Pipe. All I seem to find is the Dynatech stuff witch seems to run like $1200 certainly not the type of money I would like to spend on half an exhaust system. I really just want some decent headers and a Y-Pipe that is a less restrictive... a.k.a 4 cats!
Thanks for the info guys! (2002 F150 4.6L 4x4)

Get some good Stainless steel shorty headers,JBA,Gibson around 700-800 dollars. As a pain in the butt to install i would not go with plain steel.Get copper gaskets and then have a good muffler shop make a new y-pipe.If you get steel headers they wont last, and then your back to square one.

wont last?

why wont the steel ones last? will they end up rotting from the inside out? Do u need to lift the engine or anything crazy to get them in there? or do they slide in with some blood sweat and tears? Thanks for all the help.

Steel will eventually burnout/rust out,the only thing hard about the install is it is hard to get to the bolts, you might have to disconnect the steering shaft. The exhaust ports are tilted down which makes them harder to get to.

Might find this thread usefull.

http://www.fordtrucks.com/forums/sho...light=headers+

I did a DIY header job on my '02 F-150 5.4L, I would bet the 4.6L to be similar.

No need to remove the steering shaft or lift up the engine, but you do need to un-hook the front 4x4 drive shaft and remove the wheel wells and tires.

I've got some good pics in my gallery, check 'em out!

IMO, I'd leave the stock cats (pretty well flowing for all intesive purposes) and y-pipe, but ditch the stock muffler....
