Question F350 Crew Cab with 5.4????????

I have found a great looking 2000 F350 Crew Cab truck with 52,000 miles for $18,500 at a local Ford dealer. I am unsure if it will have enough power when I put my truck camper on it an my boat on the hitch. What kind of mileage can I expect? Should I pay 4-5000 more for a Power Stroke? Here in Missouri diesel is at about $1.80/gallon and gas is around $1.55/gallon. I am estmating very little difference in operating costs. What do you guys think?????????

The PowerStroke should get much better mileage, especially loaded down. That is a lot of weight far a 5.4L. It would pull it , but it would probably work it pretty hard.

The operating costs for the PSD is higher (oil chages & fuel filters), as the diesel takes much more oil. I had an '01 F250 w/PSD and it got aprox. 22mpg w/o load and my '02 F150 w/5.4L gets aprox. 17mpg, but it doesn't have near the power of the PSD. Good luck with the choice, but I would think the 5.4L would be marginal for the F350, if you figure on doing much towing.

I have a 2003 f250 CC 4x4 w/8ft bed and a 5.4L in it.

It serves me just fine. I don't haul or tow anything heavy. Never towed anything yet. Maybe a small boat in the future.

I would go with a PSD for what you want to do with it.
