Who makes the best performing air filter kit for a 2000 Ranger 4.0L? I once had the KKM True-Rev on a '99 Ranger with the 3.0L, but that is the only thing I've been able to compare with. Does anyone know of other manufacturers for the 4.0L?

Thanks,

Matt

They are pretty much all the same. A smooth tube with a K&N filter on the end. YOu can make your own and save bucks if you use Plumbing PVC piping and possible paint it when done. A couple of dollars for the tube and 50.00 for the filter. That is a lot better than 150 to 200

word of caution with k&n filters-don't overdo it with the oil. many ppl have had the extra oil pass through and bugger up their MAF. also, i've heard that in real world practice K&N's are known to pass larger chunks of debris through the filter. if you liked the kkn and it worked for you, stick with it.

I have a 2001 Ranger with the 4.0 and am planning to use an AMSOIL air filter. From what I have heard, it is every bit as good, if not better than a K & N. I'm also going to use AMSOIL Oil and oil filter as well. I'm sure it can't hurt. And hey.... If you know how to get rid of the speed governor on the ranger (94 mph) I'd love to know. I can't get the dealership to do anything (surprise!!) and I can't find any aftermarket chips. I just need more speed!!

You have to change the chip to kill the gov on your truck. I guess you will have to wait until one of the chip manufactures starts making the chips for the 2001's. I know they make them for the 2000 4.0's.
