Unhappy Floor Mats are Soaked

Hi Everyone...

I have a problem with my 02 Escape that is driving me crazy and I can't find the source. I live in Seattle and it rains quite alot. My floor mats are soaked. I have looked under the car for any rock holes or damage and cannot find any. The mats start getting wet only on the front doors from the door side to the interior. Any help or advise would be appreciated.

Thanks Dan

You have me worried. I've heard of condensation drains coming loose and soaking one side but not both sides. Sounds like the windshield doesn't have a good seal or the cabin filter cover is leaking under the hood.

You might want to pull the cover off the kick panel fuse box. I've heard of a few instances where the water has drained into that area and caused shorts - major electrical problems.

Thanks Bananaboat.

I'll have a look asap and post my finding. Sure wouldn't want to fry anything. My guess is to start high (windshield) and work my way down.

Wink Check the interior body welds

I had a 1997 Taurus and one day after rain there was a lot of water on the passenger side floor that was in the mat and on the rug. Body shop took a look at it and noted that one of the welds in the inner body opened just a hair, letting water seep through. Couple turns of the acetelyne torch turned the trick.
(FYI I "Carfaxed" the VIN and the car is now on its 3rd owner with over 120K on the odometer!)

We test drove an '02 that had a bad windsheild leak. The dealer let us have it overnight, and it poured. When I got in it in the morning, the cupholders in the console were full! I'm not sure why it was leaking, but I think the dealer removed the windsheild and resealed it. (No, we didn't buy that one.....)

I've got an 02 Escape and it's doing the same thing. Couldn't tell where it was coming from until I went to the car wash today - watre strted dripping off of the "handle" next to the windshield on the passenger side. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm thinking either the windshield or the sunroof.......

My problem is I had pine needles blocking the drains on the sunroof. Poked and blew the needles out and it stopped the leak.

Speaking of pine needles. When I added a filter to the cabin air intake, and found a large pile of needles packed blocking the drain pan. Those needles can infiltrate anything. This car is also in the "Great Northwet'.

I didn't think all Escapes had cabin air filters?
Anyway, you guys think it might be a door or window seal leaking?

I talked my sister in buying an 06 limited 2 weeks ago, she called me up this weekend in a panic with water pouring out of the driver side "oh-****" grab handle. I looked at it yesterday and I poured water around the sunroof and made sure the drain holes weren't blocked. The drain holes flowed fine, so we aren't sure what it is. My second guess would be the windshield. The dealer will be looking at it on Monday. We had a lot of rain recently, my 06 escape xlt didn't leak a drop. I'll see what the dealer does for her.

A few weeks ago I worked on an 06 Limited with the same problem.
There's a drain hose from the sunroof drain that runs down the A-pillar. It wasn't connected at the sunroof. I just had to drop down the headliner and hook up the hose.

we got our limited back from the dealer today, they said the problem was fixed by adjusting the sunroof. Not sure what they exactly did to it, but we'll see if it works.
