1960 F100 - Dual Exhaust???

What are the advantages and disadvantages of putting dual exhaust on my 1960 F100. It has a 292 y-block.

The only disadvantage I can think of would be the cost of installation. As far as advantages, better performance, slightly more HP, and as Holland put it, "the sound"! It's win win no matter how you look at it. Go for it!

I notcied a big difference in power and fuel mileage when I went to dual.

Thanks, sounds like I should head that way. If you eliminate the cross pipe, do you have to get hot air to the carborator somehow in cold weather?

Yes It can cause the carb to ice up until the engine warms up. But it is not so much the cross over pipe it is the heat riser that is hooked to one side of the pipe. When it is closed the exhaust is forced to go throu a passage under the carb. that warms it.

So is there a way to remedy the icing problem with the dual exhaust installed?

I sure their is a way. Some times I will shove a rag in one tail pipe for a minute that seems warm it up quick. You may be able to put the heat riser on the other side if you are going to use stock manifold. On the fe engines they used a carb spacer that the heater coolent ran through I think that may work but I havent found one yet. I don't find it to be that big of a problem, it only happens on cool damp days.
