1st of all I don't know why Ford went from 40/60 bench to 40/20/40, for me the former was the perfect set up, no child seat in center.. However I do like any bench better than captians.. I like my honey's to sit real close..

Captains Seats/ Normally Good - Floor Shifter/ Bad. It's a truck not a BMW. The additional room up front to throw in a package, briefcase or install accessories is well worth it. I swear by the bench seat configuration. By the way the seat itself is actually the same seatwith same support levels.

Right...this isn't even a bench seat anymore, no matter which setup you go with. The two 40 portions are really like bucket seats, not a bench seat. This ain't your dad's 1970's or 80's bench seat. It's no longer a bench.

I have the "bench seat" in my fx4 super cab. I have the "lumbar" support WITH adjustment in the passenger seat. I actually think the storage in bench seat is pretty decent for a truck anyway.... I also bought the bensh seat so I can get as many girls in the truck as possble....

The center section lifts up for a "secret" storage compartment too. Can practically fit a six-pack in there. :-)

too far forward

My center console with my CC's seems way too far forward. I'm going to look into moving it back. Pain to get your arm in there while driving.

IMO some things just not thought through.

I have both

I have a 2000 F250 Super Cab with 40/20/40 leather and a 2000 F350 Crew Cab with captains also leather. I’d take the Captains easily over the 40/20/40.

Captains vs. 40/20/40 seats

I have had both (captains and 40/20/40) and I prefer the 40/20/40. The center "20" is not much but it is there when you need it.
