FX4 great ride quality! A+++

I have only 5000+ miles on my '04 FX4. I took a short drive a few days ago in my brother's-in-law late model "other-brand" 4WD pickup in the mountains on some twisty roads that I know real well. Wow, I'm real glad I chose the Ford. What a difference! His steering felt soft and mushy, and the truck leaned a lot more than the Ford with each curve. The sound insulation/isolation wasn't nearly as good either. The next trip to the lumber yard, I made sure it was in my truck.

I remember being a bit put-off by the initial city test ride in an FX4, thinking the so-called Off Road features would make the ride too firm and "truck-like". Was I wrong! After the trip in the other truck, mine feels just right. Good job!!!

Thanks. The front end of a Jag is about as good as car design gets; Now if Jaguar would consider building a big pickup.....

I read all these posts about trouble with these trucks and it scares the hell out of me.Then,I go get in my 04-FX4 Screw,go for a drive and I couldn`t be happier.It`s the nicest ride I`ve ever had.No probs so far,and I have been running it hard.Miles driven on the beach,in the woods,and highways.Sorry some others are having trouble but I must have gotten a good one.

My guess is that the vast majority of F150's sold are "good ones". Most happy owners will just drive and enjoy them, but it's natural for those that bought a problem truck to find a forum like this and look for possible solutions/answers to their problems. I suspect that some of the frustration comes from the dealer/service departments that don't go the extra mile to return a defective truck to factory specs. Or maybe Ford could do a better job equipping the dealers with the right training and testing gear. I sympathize with the owners that aren't finding satisfaction with ongoing problems.

I had a vibration problem at highway speeds with my Toyota 4Runner. The dealer failed twice to fix it. He finally admitted that they never took it on the highway for a road test. I'm sure Toyota got charged for the "fixes". Another dealership fixed it right (a defective tire) on the first attempt.

All in all, this is a great truck; I hope the owners here get them sorted out quickly and once again are ""enthusiasts".

P.S. My truck is going in Tuesday for a faulty rear sliding window switch. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. No big deal; I'm sure I'll be taken care of. If I consider how many thousands of moving parts, wires, nuts and bolts and computers on this thing, I'd be hard pressed to complain about a faulty switch.

I have to agree!!!! I have an 04-Scab FX4 w/ 3.73rear and it is the smoothest riding truck I have ever been in. It is smoother than my wife's 03 Eddie Bauer Expy with the luxury ride!! She rathers ride in my truck now over her Expy.

Also after having 4 other F-150's this truck is leaps and bounds over the others. All of the others have been 4x2's: '83 reg cab, '89 reg cab, and '97 Scab. All of these other trucks fishtailed on bumpy gravel roads or on potholed roads typical here in South Louisiana.. My new truck doesn't move even when I let go of the wheel on one of these roads. I do have to agree, you do "feel the road" more in this truck but as I describe it to other people, its like a car ride with great off road handling.

Ford has built one rock solid but GREAT riding truck!!!!!!!!!!!
