I've done a lot of squirrel hunting with an old single-shot 20ga. J.C. Higgins that was bought through Montgomery Wards. My grandfather got it new when he was a kid (1940's).

Neat little gun, and it's in almost perfect condition (with some wear...it's been used a LOT)

Doubt if it's worth anything, but I love it.

It's got a hollow "Bakelite" stock with a screw-in plug in the butt-plate, which is interesting. I'm not sure if there's a real good reason for it or not, but it makes the gun VERY light to carry around all day (also makes it feel like you're firing a cannon when you shoot it).

There's something that's just fun abou hunting with older guns.

I took the Higg out yesterday and pulled six rounds off... This is a very potent gun. Doesn't kick hard, has a good balance, and seems to be able to shoot very well. The action is very tight also. I think that I came out just fine on this deal.

The Ted Williams brand was for their premium line of sporting goods. Baseball great Ted Williams was a spokesperson for Sears and it was heavily advertised.

I also have a Ted williams, 12 gauge with a poly choke. It is identical to my winchester model 1200. Dad bought both back in the 70s and gave me my choice, now I have both as will my son.
