how good is your rangers gas mileage?

hey i was just wondering what kind of gas mileage you ranger guys are getting. i have a 95 f150 351w and im thinking about down sizing to a ranger so my gas bill is not so high. i would like the know the differences b/w the 2.3's all the way up to the 4.0's in mph new and old trucks. couldnt find any threads like this in the past so i thought id ask, thanks.

I have a 92 Ranger XLT 4x4 with a 4.0 V6. In the summer when I go for leisurely cruising I get on the average of around 15 mpg. In the winter it takes a bit of a hit, putting it in 4x4 and changing tires and all (plus I bag it a bit more). During those months of snow I get around 10-11 mpg.
To tell you the truth, downgrading to an earlier ranger doesn't really help the whole spending less on gas situation you're looking at. My dad drives an '05 F-150 FX4 dealer vehicle. Eventhough he can spend $100 (Cdn) on a tank of gas, it has a bigger tank, and if you compare the two, it's probably the same mileage. Maybe the F-150 is even better on gas, maybe I'll check soon.
I'm not sure how the new rangers are, so I'd like to see people's numbers as well.

'99 2 wheel drive 4.0L extended cab here. I get 19-20 on the highway and 14-15 in town driving. I have a cab on the bed - don't know whether that effects my mileage or not.

02 XLT 4x4 4.0 - I average about 19mpg. That's a good mix of city\hwy driving and my lead foot.

Has a nice tone to it with an air intake and gibson stainless exhaust. I like to listen to it often. Cannot resist the resonance.

88' 2.3L, Supercab, 4x2, 117k, 5sp, I get 23+MPG driving 10miles to work on city streets. 26+MPG on the highway. The MPG ability of the 2.3L is why I bought it. It is not my "good" car, but it is used to beat-up on, and haul crap.

My '97 Ranger XLT LB w/ 2.3L and 5spd gets about 24mpg in bumper-to-bumper DC traffic (which is basically the only times I drive it - it's my commuter). Not really sure what I get on normal highway driving.

Hope that helps . . .

This thread put up just in time for my post! Recently had the fuel filter changed at 72k on my 2000 XLT 3.0 S/C 4x2. Have only had the truck since August of this year. Prior milage was anywhere from 13/16 in town and only time cking hiway was 24mpg. Today after the first tank (after f/filter change) of in town worked out to 18.9! Had to run to Biloxi, MS and right back so tested it also. WOW! Come out at 26mpg running 70mph w/cruise engaged. Am pleased!

97 Ranger, 4.0L, 4x4, 5spd manual, supercab. Around 17.5-18 MPG, combined (more city than highway). About the same with my 94, 3.0L 4spd auto. Have a cap on the 97, had a toneu cover on the 94.

2004 Ranger Edge, 3.0L, Supercab, 4x2 with 5 speed manual and 4.10 lim slip diff gets with my driving which is 80% highway 20% city 20.6 gpm (11.4L/km). I have to say I am not too happy with it. My 88 Bronco II with 5 speed manual and 2.9L gets 22gpm (10.7L) with simular driving.
