428 Marauder and 3 speed trans
I have a 428 marauder with a three speed trans sitting in the garage. Can anyone tell me if the engine and trans will fit into my truck? My truck is a 1969 F-100. The motor and trans only have 60 000 miles on them. The motor is tore down to the block. The cylinder walls feel as smooth as the day it came off the line. Is there anything else I should look for? I'm just starting to restore my new found pride and joy! I'll put some pictures in my gallery after the restoration is complete.
Thanks

If your truck was an FE truck to begin with(360/390), then it will bolt right in! If yours was a small block(6cyl or 302) then you'll need mounts and radiator.
Was your truck stick shift?? If so, then no problem. Just get a nice Hurst three speed truck shifter for it. Unless you have column shift and all the linkage was there. I'd still convert it to floor shift...much more reliable.

My truck currently has a 360 with a 3 speed manual trans. The trans in there right now was driven pretty hard by the pervious owner. The 3 speed with the 428 is an automatic. I was planning on just putting the shifter on the floor. So you think that the 428 will just drop right in? I'd really like that! The motor itself is out of a car, I dont think that changes anything though? Lots of work a head, planning on doing a frame off resto.

Oh, automatic. It will all bolt in for the most part. The tranny MAY be a cruise-o-matic?? Not sure what year they started with C6?
Anyway, the most you MIGHT have to do is move the tranny crossmember. That is a simple job since the frame is flat. Move it to where it might need to go, and re-drill the holes for frame bolts. Been there, done that. You may have to have some driveshaft length issues. Not a problem. Measure length of manual tranny including bellhousing, then measure automatic. The difference will be what you need to adjust.
Do you have 2-pc driveshaft(long bed?) or one piece(shortbed?). Not really matters, you'll just need to pull it and get it changed/altered if tranny is different length. The front yoke may need to be altered also. Nothing more than a u-joint change.

Marauder engine
Unless i missed the engine class the Marauder was a 410 ci engine that was opitional vs the 390 in the 66-67 Mercury only. It was a 10.5:1 compression engine. 68 was the first year of the 428. With todays "crap" gas your looking at detonition city unless you run 76cc heads. Carl....o&o>.........

The 428 was also an option, depending on what you ordered. A 10.5:1 comp engine will run fine on today's premium, but be prepared to be limited to that. Drive-shaft and trans mount issues are the only ones I see here, as previously mentioned. Neither is a big deal as long as you're willing to go to the bother. With 60 grand on the engine, I'd take the time to tear it down, and at least hone it, have the valve guides checked, as well as replace the valve seals, and have your wrist pins/keepser changed, and checked for tolerance as well. Won't hurt to have the crank checked, and at least replace the bearings there as well as all gaskets. You've got it out now, cheaper to do this the first time around. Even a total rebuild with a .030 overbore is not out of line if it makes everything fresh, along with a 10 thou under-sizing on the crank bearings to make sure it runs without vibrations and lives for a long while. Make sure you at least replace the crappy stock timing gear set-up, and harmonic balancer.

Some Marauders had 427 2x4 bbls. Don't remember the desingation...S87?? something like that. Really rare bird.
I would at least put a timing chain(get rid of crappy nylon junk) before installing in truck. Those nylon ones WILL fall apart by 100K miles anyway. Valve stem seals would be mandatory by now also.

nylon cam sprockes
I remember a neighbor that purchased a 67 Mercury with 410 in 67, it ran 163,000 miles before the pan filled up with nylon cam sprocket teeth. I was the one that replaced the gear set with steel. That was one heavy vehicle but a great highway cruiser. Carl......o&o>.........

Hey guys, thanks for all info. I hope to get the body off and motor in by early january. It would be sooner but I'm still in school. I would leave the 3 speed manual it right now but the 3 speed auto wasn't driven hard at all. When my dad purchased the car that the motor came out of the owner was around 70. It looked to be in great shape. I just want something with some power but wont eat the gas right up.

gas? what gas?
We don't have no stinking gas man! 4,500 pound truck with a FE will not match a Honda for fuel mileage if thats what you want. Plan on a fuel bill of 10 mpg as a standard, then compare the cost of a new truck, dmv, insurence and depreciation and still have a truck everyone else has without character. Carl......o&o>........
