ford rangers chirp on startup
i know a few of us out there have experianced the squeeky chattery chirpy sound on initial cold start up in our 2.5l rangers, this morning i was at the mall as i was getting out of the car, the guy i had parked next too was leaving, he had a 98+ ranger thats why i parked next to him, i got to hear is little chirp too, it peaked my interest, so when we got home (we did not take the ranger to the mall), i decided to try to pinpoint this sound, i removed the serpentine belt and started it and sure enough it was still there, quite a good one this time too did it for almost a second +. anyways that left me with starter or motor internals i treid to listen to it from under the hood but it only does it initially and then not again till is set for awhile... im thinkin its an oil pressure related deal, but what would make such a sound, its pretty loud under the hood, but its so quick and it takes two people to catch it.
im wondering if anyone has ever tracked this one down any guesses?
wtf? whats the deal with these little trucks anyways, the more i investigate the more i belive its been assembled with the leftover defect parts i mean come on
my list of complaints is pretty long with this little truck, and i know im not the only one

I had a chirp on a 2.5l once, replaced the belt and still had it. Ford said to remove the belt and CLEAN/inspect the pulleys also look at the alinement. I wire brushed the grooved pulleys and then cleaned everything with brake cleaner. Never heard it again. Belt tensoiner do go bad, check for any wobble and spring tension and replace it feels bad. Some have tried to replace the bearing, but they useually have to be ordered and cost almost as much as a new tensoiner.

I have a 2000 Ranger with a 2.3L 4cyl. I get the chirp too but only when its damp outside. It doesn't chirp on every start..usually on just the first one in the morning and subsequent starts does not produce the noise(unless its been many hours since it is started). Its done this for over 2 years when I bought it used and I seem to attribute it to the belt system.

no go on the belt or the starter, this is a tough one to look into cause it only does it when cold, every now and then it will do it after only having sat for an hour, but usually only after a long sitting, ive listend with my stethascope and had no luck pinpointing it, but it definately is coming from up top maybe valve noise due to lack of oil??? odd noise tho it seems to dissapear the same time the oil pressure gauge pops up. but no one here has really seemed to conserned about it. on my truck its not the serp., or any belt accessory.
having only hit 45k im pretty mad aboutwith this noise but i have other problems with the truck to focus on befor the one that only bugs me twice a day
