'99 F150 5.4 Oil Leak Help

I saw a thread on here a few months ago where someone had to replace a part on the 5.4 where the oil filter mounts to. I think it was cracked or machined incorrectly. I don't know if this is the source of my leak yet. I have developed a very slow drip. I noticed it about mid-way before my last oil change. I change my own oil on it, use the Motorcraft Filter, and inspected the mounting area. It was free of debris and clean prior to installing the new filter. So, this leak has continued on two different, but same model, oil filters. I have been using the MC Filter for almost 40000 miles. It's difficult to pinpoint the leak with the front diff. and such in the way. (Yes, it's 4x4)

If anyone has had to have this repair completed, please let me know. I specifically need to know the part name/number and how difficult the job is. I did try some searches on this, but did not know the part name.

Thank you,

Bryan

I had to replace the gasket that goes between the adapter and the block on a 93 Mark VIII a couple of weeks ago. It only leaked when the engine was cold. The gasket is about $12 at the dealer. I would clean the area then watch it on a cold start-up and see if you see any oil seeping from behind the adapter.

Not Oil Leaking and Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. This afternoon I was able to locate the leak. It's actually a power steering hose. I'll be tackling that repair tomorrow evening. Any tips I should know about that a Chilton's Manual won't tell me?

The best advice I can give you is to get an OEM pwr steering hose from your local dealer if it is the high pressure hose from the sector to the pump because the pump end of the hose if i'm not mistaken has a teflon o-ring on it which is a pain in the *** to replace,if that's where your leak is.You have to heat the o-ring in warm water so you can stretch it over the threads whereas the oem hose has the o-ring already installed for you.I've done 45-50 of them on the crown vics and it's so much easier to buy an oem hose and stick it on.

CrownVicRicky,

Thanks! I'll be going to Tucson today or tomorrow. I'll check with the dealership up there. I did look at the OEM hoses online and they were not much more than the other stores. It does sound worth it to get the right hose. Thank you again!
