Best use for the 'coin holder' in the dash?

This only applys to those of us with the useless 'coin holder' in their dash. This is in the socket that 'mirrors' the power tap, on the drivers side.

You can't keep change in it, as the coins rattle. And fall out.

A gauge doesn't work, as it's behind the column shift when you're in gear.

Who needs a third power tap? Counting the lighter as the second.

I finally mounted a Cell phone mount in mine. I just changed Cell phones, to a small silver Samsung flip phone. It came with a useless belt clip. I mounted the belt clip into the coin holder, so my phone is handy. Looks good, at least when the phone is in it. Beats dropping it in the cup holder on the center rest, which I have been doing.

Anyone found a better use?
Chris.

Cell phone holder sounds WONDERFUL! I wish I had a place to hang mine in my '02. I've taken to leaving the dash cup holder open and setting it in one of the holes there. I'd love to have a clip right next to the power point, especially if it looked like it belonged there.

I'm posting a couple of pictures in my gallery. Easy mod, and the more I look at it, the better I like it.

I tried putting my cell in the pop out drink holder. Then I tried getting it out from under the seat...
In this day and age, cars need to come with holders, standard. Earth to Ford.

An excellent idea. Sure beats putting cell phone in cup holder.

Skip #7.I wanted to do that, but a couple of questions;
How did you hook up the tachometer?
I now have two tachometers, (I should work for the Department of Redundancy Department,) but one is an FX4 IP the other is my Scangauge. If I could have just added a tachometer I could have saved a bit.

How do you see it? When I put my truck in gear, the shifter completely obscures the area.
Or do you have a console shift?
Any other interesting uses for this little circle?

DVLSH1, I have to ask, Where do you drive? I know the area I live has the worst roads in the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comUS</ST1</st1:country-region>, but still, even on the freeway, quarters rattled enough to be annoying when they were in the holder. And if I wanted to ignore that, every time I nailed it, the coins hit the floor.
Still, glad to see this doohiky works for someone.

in south jersey. no mountains, and i dont take my truck off roading. I do drive on the garden state parkway (new jerseys version of the freeway, altho should call it payway since there are tolls) but even then i dont have a problem of them falling out. they may rattle a little bit but dont really notice that due to my stereo being on.

DVLSH1,

Your post reminded me of an old question that I never got an answer to.

Why do we drive on parkways, and park on driveways ?

Hi Skip #7;
I'm thinking you must have the floor shift. My steering wheel doesn't come into play. The stalk from the column shifter is directly over the 'coin holder'. I can't even see the time on my cell when I'm in drive. Still, works great. Tested it today, and when I got a phone call, it was super easy to unclip and answer. Don't like to talk on the cell when driving, but sometimes you gotta.

Local Ford says there is no way to put a tach on this truck. Well, they haven't been right about anything yet, no reason to expect anything new. Don't really need it anymore, since I put in the FX4 IP, and have the Scangauge anyway.
But it would have been a lot cheaper. 145 bucks for the IP shipped, 75 bucks to reprogram the Odometer, 85 bucks to reflash.
60, plus cost of Autometer tach would have been sweet.

My seat is always all the way back, I'm 6'3''.

Hi,Jdwheels, Great idea, I should have converted my truck to 4x4, then I could have installed the selector switch...LOL.
I can just see my wife reacting to that mod, "Gee honey, do you mind if I drop a couple four thousand bucks in the truck?"
Kidding aside, 4x4 is nice, but I really never use it. My Toad, a soft top Tracker, hasn't been in four low this year. And only a couple times last year. Just didn't feel like paying for something I never use. But the F150 fourbys sure look nice.

Have a great day,
Chris

Wink

Well.... you can get a 4X4 switch and put it in the hole, and pretend you have a 4X4
