O2 Sensor 4.6L

Autozone code read Bank2 run lean. Can the O2 sensor cause the catalytic convertor to get red hot? Or is the convertor bad?

If it is running really lean it could. Try cleaning the MAF first, also, check the PCV hose assembly for cracks, especially back behind the intake manifold.

O2 sensors only measure oxygen in exhaust (simple enough), they can't tell why or where that oxygen is getting into the exhaust. Pretty much age/dirt calls for the O2 being the actual *cause* of emissions issues.

(The above needs to be sticky material--saves many noobs money, I bet.)

Lean mix can also come from bad fuel filter or pump. Anything that can cause lowered fuel output needs to be checked.

Yeah, that fuel filter needs to be changed to ensure proper fuel flow as well as taking the strain off the fuel pump so it won't suffer an early death.Get 'er done.
