I believe '83 was the transition year for the 351m to 351w motor. So it could have a 300, 302, 351m, 351w, or a 400.
There were three manuals available - the T18, NP435, and the top-loader four speed overdrive.
Does anyone know if the three on the tree tranny ever made it into a Bronco? I've never seen one before, but I know it was available in the F-series.

I'm looking at a parts vehicle for my 92 and the person says it is a 351 C, I doubt it but I wan't a way to verify exactly. I know it has a 4 speed but I believe there are a few options same with the transfer case. Mine has a 302, E4OD, and BW1351. These need to go and the parts car is only $300. My buddy repoed it and said it runs strong but doesn't matter as I'll rebuild if ness. I'm building this for 05 baja 1000 and want a powerplant that is up to it. Any info is greatly appreciated.

The FIRST standard transmission was three-in-the-tree in the Bronco (1966). Later it moved to the floor and stayed there. Not sure how long the three speed manual was available.
Newrob, your T-case should be a BW1356. The 351C is a difficult engine to come by. Not to say it Can't be but none of the info that I haev even alludes to that engine being available in the Bronco. Should still be a 351M which is actually a smaller bored big block. Essentially the similarities between the 351M and the 400 are about as close as the 302 and the 351W (smallblock) as I understand it.

T-case options for the 82 would be either a B-W 1345 or NP208. Both are chain-driven, like the BW-1356, so I would look for an NP205 if u plan to race. The Ford 9" rearend will need some upgrading ,too. Look to go at least 35 spline shafts with a spool or DL. And get rid of the front D44 TTB for a good solid D60. If you need a navigator/driver/mechanic for the Baja, I work for cheap!!!

351C vs 351W
A 1982 or 1992 Bronco would only have a 351C if it was replaced sometime after leaving the factory. 400Ms were used for a time in the early 80s then phased out in 1983. I believe the 351HO (4 barrel) that came available in 1984 could be presumed to have taken the place of the 400M.
3 on the tree in a Bronco? Not that I have ever seen since they grew up in 1978.
I have Bronco sales brochures for most of the early 80s, but am not now where I can check them.

I have owned several Broncos myself and one Bronco II and to my knowledge 1977 was the last year for the three speed on the column. My 69 Bronco had a factory 3 speed on the column. I just purchased a 82 Bronco running and driving for $600 that I am picking up this weekend with a good body. Gotta love those Broncos!
