Weird Noise

Hi All,

I wasn't sure where to post this? It could have been posted under the SD forum but I choose this one.

I purchased the truck last Thursday and now have 500 miles on it.

I have 2005, F250SD, PS with an automatic trans. When I accelerate I hear a hum. Not like an engine noise. More like you would hear on a Chevy when the heat shield on the exhaust comes loose, it doesn't rattle; rather is a very low sounding hum. (Did I talk bad about Chevy ) . The noise is coming from the engine compartment and I can't find the source. I really don't want to have to take it back to the dealer right away, but I thought I better ask the question considering I'm a newbie with diesels and don't harm the PS. BTW, this started on Saturday, three days after I picked up the truck.

All comments are welcome and thanks for taking the time to read this.

Kindest Regards,

Chuck

Sounds like the power steering pump. Mine does it when I turn, otherwise it's quiet. I have heard of some faulty units.

Could it be the exhaust drone? Does it happen in the 1400-1600 RPM range?
