Exaust manifold question

I have a 460 in a 1979 Ford F-150 4x4 and was wondering if you have to run gaskets between the block and the exaust manifolds?

I have a book by Tom Monroe, and I am pretty sure he says that you do not.

Tommorrow when I am in the garage I will try and remember to look at it and let you know for sure.

I run headers and use red high temp silicone with no gaskets and it works well for me.

1979MEANGREEN,
I just replace my 460 efi exhaust manifolds with headers (broken bolt, warped and cracked). When I took the manifolds off there were no gaskets installed by the factory. If your cylinder heads are smooth and clean around the exhaust ports, I would not use anything. This is how mine were and is running fine now.

The book explains that your engine originaly did not have exhaust gaskets, the ones in the rebuild kit are there incase you have damaged surfaces or warpage.

There should never be a gasket between an exhaust manifold and head unless it is a steel shim gasket.
