What kind of Christmas Tree for you??

What kind of tree will you have for Christmas??

I went through many rituals over the years. First, it was buying trees off a lot. Then, we would bring the kids to a tree farm, go on a hayride, and have them wander around to pick one out for me to cut down.

The kids are older now (no longer into it), and the mess of removing the tree afterwards got to be a pain.

So, I build mine out of the box nowadays! (NO, it's not aluminum with a color wheel light shining on it!!) Still hang the lights, garland, and ornaments.

How about you??

This year one of the kids is selling christmas Trees as a FFA fundraiser, so I might spare myself the trek to Mt. Hood. Just won't seem the same- not getting soaked and cold, stuck at least once.....

Mind you, I'm looking at three or four tree farms off of my back deck, but that's waaaay too easy.

We have two artificial trees here. No muss, no fuss, and we don't have to worry about the fire hazard real trees pose (sorry but I've seen too many Merry Christmas's become not so merry due to fires!)

Besides, the Mrs doesn't want to vacuum pine needles all the time!

Once the kids got older the wife got the idea to go to a small artificial tree & just leave it decorated full time. After January I just pick it up & carefully take it to the basement & cover it up for the rest of the year. Just yesterday the wife cleared off the space for it & I brought it back up & plugged it in. No hassle, no mess.

I used to find my tree in the woods on the farm I lived on during the fall and tag it. Then in early December the kids and I would go cut it and decorate it. I loved that tradition and the smell of fresh cut pine in the house. However, the kids are grown, I no longer live on the farm and now I go the clean and simple route - artificial.

No tree. We go to the family's house and look at theirs. My wife just hangs a Moravian star in the window and sometimes we decorate the porch but that's it.

I want a silver/chrome one with the green/red yellow relector style lights.

make me feel like a kid again 1970's

anyone else have one then?

Funny thing I can still smell the lamp plastic, and feel the heat from the lamp remebering when. (no I was not dropping acid;')
It was...magical.

30 plus years later living in an older home we cut fresh real ones every season.
we enjoy the smell of spruce/fur pine.

I do also like those big godly old fashioned house lights.

artificial...with humidity so low it's too easy for a tree to dry out and burn up here in aridzona.

Went to the lot Saturday morning and got one. It always takes my wife 30-40 min to pick out a tree 'cause she has to have the best one they have. All I have to do is trim the bottom and put it in the stand. My wife and son put the lights on, 5-6 150 light strands, and then the kids put all the ornaments on.

Tradition has always been a real tree. White spruce soft needle , no one is losing an eye!! We go to the tree farm take the hay ride 100 acres into the back bush, the kids and miss's are all sipping on hot cider.
Kids falling into the fresh snow, now cold and damp, no one can decide on what tree to take! The arguing starts, the kids are complaining. We cut down a sweet tree it's probaly 3 times the size we need because it is hard to judge being outside. The kids are cold and fighting now, the miss's is fuming. The hay ride to bring us back is about 20 minitues away. I say screw it and drag the tree back to the truck.
Could ya give up such a great tradition!!
It's not all that bad??

WildOne...that is a hilarious (and accurate) description!! It sure was fun while it lasted, but my kids have grown and those days are over.

My old neighbors in NH, they got an 18 foot tree, cut 8 feet off the top for their son, then cut most of the branches off so the had the trunk and about 90º of the tree left. they tied that into the corner of the back porch, and had all the grandkids decorate it. With 6 foot braches out from the trunk... they had all the room they needed for the gifts for 20 grandkids! The back porch wasnt heated except on xmas day!

For the first time we're going artificial, the kids are out of the house (WOOHOO!) And both of us work, for years we had the real thing. This year, simpler, easier and better with box tree. No watering, no worrying about the flamability while at work. (A friend lost his house to a tree fire a few years ago while at work.)
We'll miss the smell and feel, but thing being the way theya re, best way.
