01 Expedition 4.6 Resetting Service Engine Light
Hi, Can Computer Codes be permanently cleared by disconnecting the battery on a 2001 2WD 4.6L Expedition? Here is the issue: A code for insufficient/restricted EGR flow was triggered. I thoroughly cleaned the EGR valve and Throttle Body EGR ports. I scraped so much carbon out I thought for sure I fixed the problem. I disconnected the battery which shut off the service engine light and drove away. Ten miles later the Service Engine light returned. The motor is running noticably smoother and quicker after the procedure.
So, either I need to reset the code via computer or I have not fixed the problem. Or both. Please help! I have Chrysler Tech training but am very new to Fords. Thanks

You didn't fix the problem if the light came back. You probably need to replace the DPFE Sensor. It is located on the EGR tube just follow the tube and there will be two smaller tubes that come off of it and it is the little black box on top of the rubber hoses. 30.00 list price from Ford. You can get a heavy duty one from Autozone for about 80.00. But to answer you other question you can clear the computer by disconnecting the battery. I usually wait about 15 min before reconnecting. You should also know that you have a 10 year 100k warranty on all emissions! Federal Law!

01 Expedition, Battery Light Coming On at 3100 Rpms and higher
Hi, thanks to the replies for my existing EGR insufficent flow.
New problem. Battery light comes on at Rpms 3100 and higher. I noticed on hard acceleration. Ran some tests: Battery passed load test and alternator charges 14.4v at idle and at rpms up to 3100. When I reach 3100 rpms or higher ( in drive or idle) the charging voltage drops steadily from 14.4 down to 12.3 and my guess is that the voltage would keep dropping if I maintain the high rpm.
Ok, being new to Ford I request some guidance. Is this an alternator on the blink or is there something else to consider. Thanks

It is possible the alt. is about to go on you. I take it your belt is not squealing at you. Check your belt tensioner and the belt see if you can pull or push on the belt. You might find if it is easy to move with just your hand it will need to be replaced. If it is weak it might be letting your belt slip at high rpms.

My gut is the alternator is ill. Any comments?
Rebuilt Alternator $138.00 auto zone. Yikes.... An electrical repair shop wanted $159.00 to rebuild.
