16' wheels
Hi all!,
I have a 2000 Ranger XLT with a 2.5l 4 banger with the stock 15" wheels. I was thinking of putting on 16" wheels from either a 4x4 or a Explorer. Has anyone here tried this? Do ya think this will kill the 4 banger? Im sure gearing wont be a problem because of the 5 speed manual. Let me know what you think.
Thank, Mike

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 14-Jan-02 AT 04:53 PM (EST)]Ok, first of all you need to think about the fact that this is going to affect your gas mileage, if only a little bit. Second, it is going to throw the calibration on your speedo off. And chances are if your local dealer is like mine, there is no one there qualified to calibrate it. So think of these things before making your final decision. Or, if you would like, I can give you an easy tip on a 30 min. cost free front end lift to help you fit those 16's under the front end w/ no scrubbing, and level the appearance of your truck.

16' wheels
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 14-Jan-02 AT 07:19 PM (EST)]The wheel size isn't the issue, it's the tires on those 16 inch wheels. My 2000 4x4 Ranger came with 245/75-16 tires. That measures out to about 30 inches tall. I'm not sure what you have now but I'm guessing about like 225/70-15 or so which is a little over 27 inches tall. If you have 4:10's or 3: 73's in the rearend you could probably handle it. I had 28 inch tall tires on my 96 with a 4 banger and 5 speed and only 3:45 gears and it didn't drag that motor down too much.
